Robin Hood Inn to Birchen Edge to Gardom’s Edge
Park in the Car Park next to the Robin Hood Inn Car Park.
Walk out of the Car Park entrance turn left up the road and the foot path is 100 yards on the left (look like a driveway/farm track)
Once through the gate on the left, the footpath heads up to the left (through the bracken in the summer), after about 500 yards or so you have a choice you can stay on the lower path (which is more gentle) or you can head up the steep path on the right (which is the route we will take) this path is quite steep with boulders step around and over.
Once at the top you will turn to the left and walk along Birchen Edge as you walk along on the left you be able to see Chatsworth estate and Baslow, you may also see climbers climbing the granite rock, on the right are some granite boilers which are relatively climbable, the next thing you will see is the Lord Nelson monument, then after this you will come to the trig point.
On a good do you we have 360 degrees of views all around, with the way you cam behind you Birchen Edge goes onto the right, just next to the trig point is a path going down and this the one we will take, as you go down you will see a large granite boulder.
This is the start of the return half of the walk.
As you go around the boulder you will see a drywall corner off to the left, ahead in the distance you will see three paths one heading to the drywall and the other two paths heading almost straight head. You can take any of the three paths, if you want to shorten the walk a little take the drywall path, we are going to take the middle path heading through the tree line, as you go through the tree line you will see another tree line ahead, the path curves slightly to the left and up to the tree line, as reach the tree line you come across an archaeological carving.
With the the way you came behind you, the path we are going to take is off to the right, the path almost straight away split one to the left and one straight on which is the path we will take. After 500 yards or so you will see a standing stone it’s slightly off to the left on another path. This is the Bear stone because from one side it looks like a bear.
Once again with the path you came on behind you the path pass the bear stone follow this path till you reach a dry Stone wall with a gate, go through the gate and Gardom’s Edge is in front of you, turn left going through the dry Stone wall and walk long the edge, you can stay next to the dry Stone wall or next to the edge. Towards the end of the edge you’ll pass three piles of stones and head is a gap in the dry stone wall had flew the gap. Follow the path down the hill with a dry stone wall on your left towards the bottom near the edge. You will see a gate gap in the wall through this gap head down the hill back down towards the main road on your left will be Burcham‘s edge from the start of the walk and on your right will be Chatsworth. At the bottom is a style over the wall and a short walk up the road back to the pub and the car park.
